ANNIE PENN COMMUNITY TRUST - History

The Annie Penn Community Trust (APCT) was created in July, 2001 as a result of the merger of Annie Penn Hospital with the Moses Cone Health System. The Trust is a private, non-profit organization governed by an autonomous board, and is independent of Annie Penn Hospital and the Moses Cone Health System.

After the hospitals merged, the Board of Trustees of Annie Penn Hospital became the initial Trust Board. The Trust Board was organized and began work on the details of setting up the Trust organization. Officers were elected and committees were set up. By-laws and funding guidelines were written and grant making procedures were put in place.

Susan Richardson was selected to serve as the first Executive Director of the Trust on a part time basis.

In June of 2002, the first grant requests were approved by the Trust Board. Sixteen grants were approved totaling $357,000.

Through February 28, 2008, grants have been funded that total $9,298,071.

The Annie Penn Community Trust Board and staff are dedicated to using the resources available to the Trust in a manner that best serves the citizens of Rockingham County.
