Annie Penn Community Trust Awards Grants
At its February 2008 meeting, the
Annie Penn Community Trust Board of Directors approved funding for
twenty-six (26) grants totaling $735,148. Since its beginning in
2002, the Trust has funded more than $9 million in grants to benefit
the citizens of Rockingham County.
“The demand for services continues to increase,” according to Robert L.
Watt, III, Chair of the Trust Board of Directors. “Our mission is
to provide financial support to organizations, programs and
initiatives that improve the health, wellness, and quality of life
of the people in Rockingham County.” Other members of the Trust
Board include Dr.
Wayne Keeling, Vice-Chair; Lee
Niegelsky, Treasurer; Dr. James Burston, Secretary; Jacob B.
Balsley, III; Malcolm Clark; Mary Fagan; Susan Shumaker; Kathleen
Halm; Barbara Johnson; Larry Johnson; Dr. Lafayette Judkins, Glenn
Martin; Barbara McMichael and Joe Walker, Jr. Craig Cardwell is
Executive Director and Melody Watt is Program Officer.
Operating with two grant cycles each
year, the Trust distributes in excess of $1 million annually.
The next funding cycle begins with Letter of Interest forms due
February 15, 2009. Additional information

The mission of
the Annie Penn Community Trust is to provide financial support to
organizations that offer or develop programs and initiatives which
improve the health, wellness, and quality of life of the people in
Rockingham County, with emphasis on the Reidsville area.
